Position: IT Infrastructure Engineer – Server/Workstation

Report to: China IT Infrastructure Team Leader

Location: Shanghai

GENERAL SUMMARY:

•  Responsible for IT (information technology) infrastructure related to server and workstation engineering activities in China. Activities include but are not limited to: development of IT standards, quality assurance of developed IT solutions, third level support of existing infrastructure, IT security and leading or participating IT infrastructure projects. As a primary geographic focus, the candidate will work on projects and support related to China based sites.

Responsibility:

•  Third Level Support of tickets escalated from China IT operations and helpdesk.

•  Vendor contact when required.

•  Consult with the global workstation engineers to understand workstation build.

•  Assist, by design and consultation, all China based IT teams.

•  Consult with the global workstation engineers to understand the network workstation infrastructure in China.

•  Third Level Support of Tickets Escalated from China IT operations and helpdesk.

•  Consult with global server engineers to understand and support server hardware, OS, utility software, ect.

•  Consult with global messaging team to understand the messaging architecture in China and how it relates to the rest of the global environment.

•  Consult with the global DRP engineers in support of China DRP configurations.

•  Understand how the standard server solution is utilized in this environment in support of the China manufacturing sites.

•  Understanding server and client requirements for engineering applications.

•  Participate in global patch management teleconferences.

•  Work with the global security engineer to understand any security items that pertain to the overall IT environment.

•  Engineer security based solutions to specific China related security concerns with direction from the global security team

•  Complete all required safety training and comply with the corporate safety program

•  Complete all required training required by Shanghai employees

•  Perform time recording at least weekly reflecting hours worked

•  Complete statements on time

•  All travel approved by China IT Eng. Team leader

•  All training to be approved by IT Eng. Team leader

•  Complete performance reviews and year end summary with China IT Eng. Team Leader

•  Participate in meetings and teleconferences as needed as a technical resource.

•  Provide feedback to team leader on requirements.

•  Advocate and champion standard solutions to business requirements.

•  When standard solutions are not available provide engineered proposal for review by subject matter expert for approval.

•  Document non standard solutions thoroughly with diagrams, flowcharts, text, and other methods.

•  Store documentation in standard repository

•  Implementation of solutions should be conducted by IT operations; you may assist when requested by your team leader.

Qualification:

•  A four year college degree in computer science or 4+ years related experience.

•  An in depth understanding and configuration knowledge of workstation and server hardware is beneficial.

•  Configuration knowledge and certification in all or any of the following subjects is desired: Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000, Active Directory, Exchange, IP networking, remote access and mobile computing devices.

•  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast paced team environment is mandatory.
